Sky News has issued an apology after outrage erupted over an on-air reporter rummaging through passenger belongings on the scene of the Malaysian Airlines crash site.
Reporter Colin Brazier during a live broadcast picked up items out of an open suitcase before saying, “We really shouldn’t be doing this, I suppose,” according to the Daily Mail.
A Sky News spokeswoman released this statement:
“Today whilst presenting from the site of the MH17 air crash Colin Brazier reflected on the human tragedy of the event and showed audiences the content of one of the victims’ bags. Colin immediately recognised that this was inappropriate and said so on air. Both Colin and Sky News apologise profusely for any offence caused.”
Social media erupted with criticism, both from the audience and fellow journalists. These tweets were posted from the audience:
Dear @SkyNews in what way do you feel it is acceptable for your reporters to rifle through the luggage of the dead https://t.co/b7JFcEI8Ly

Hey @SkyNews, could you not pick through the belongings of dead people please? Would you mind? #MH17 — James Moran (@jamesmoran) July 20, 2014
@SkyNews Hang your heads in shame. Who made the editorial decision to rifle though the belongings of the dead? An apology does not suffice.

Then others in the media took a shot with these tweets:
This is awful behavior by a journalist – Sky News apologises after presenter is seen looking through MH17 luggage http://t.co/b7CalZoI4m

People doing stand-ups practically inside the plane remains. A TV reporter rifling through a suitcase. Makes me sick. #ashamedforprofession — Paul Sonne (@PaulSonne) July 20, 2014
This sounds to me that no apology can satisfy the offense against victims as well as journalism. Blatantly fireable. http://t.co/rrKhIaJVCZ

No word on whether Brazier will keep his job.
Veterans show Obama how they turn their backs on him, as he has done to them
