Lib law professor warns: Obama’s ’emerging dominant presidency’ remaking government

Jonathan Turley, a liberal law professor at The George Washington University Law School, warned lawmakers Wednesday that President Obama threatens to remake our very form of government.

“Our system is changing and this body is the one branch that must act if we are to reverse those changes,” he warned the House Rules Committee. “We are seeing the emergence of a different model of government, a model long-ago rejected by the framers.”

The constitutional scholar appeared on “The Kelly File,” later Wednesday to explain that Obama is changing America through his use of executive orders, which the president downplays by pointing out that he has issued fewer than his predecessors.

“Counting executive orders is a silly business,” Turley said. “It has no relevance at all. You could have a single executive order that guts the government or you could have a thousand that do nothing.”

Turley told Fox News host Megyn Kelly we’re seeing an “emerging dominant presidency,” and how many in Congress — Democrats — have taken on a “self-destructing attitude” in applauding Obama as he circumvents the body.

“When a president can govern alone, he can become a government unto himself,” he testified before Congress earlier in the day. “Which is precisely the danger the framers sought to avoid. What we’re witnessing today is one of the greatest crises that members of this body will face.”
