The vice president of the Border Patrol union said agents are discouraged by the sheer number of illegal immigrant children pouring into the country, and that many are contracting diseases as they try to do their jobs.

“A lot of our agents are discouraged by what’s going on, the practices we’re seeing,” Chris Cabrea said. “The sheer number of people. And it’s tough when you see you kids coming in; they’re alone, they’re scared, they’re very fragile and our agents don’t like to see these kids in this condition.”

Cabrea told Fox New host Martha MacCallum Monday that “it’s very difficult for our agents.”

“Coming off the long journey they [children] have been subjected to and then the diseases some agents are contracting,” he said. “We had one get bacterial pneumonia a couple days ago. A lot of our guys are coming down with scabies or lice from these people.”

The union leader expressed concern that diseases they have not “seen in decades” will spread throughout the U.S.

“The border patrol is trying to play catch up and we’re having a lot of diseases coming in and some we haven’t seen in decades and we are worried they will spread throughout the United States especially if they are being released and have the disease,” he said.
