Proving she can still make liberals head explode with even the smallest suggestion, Sarah Palin provoked a storm of lefty outrage with the publication Monday of hints she might be interested in joining the daytime talk show “The View.”
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter pegged to the announcement that “Amazing America with Sarah Palin” had been picked up for a second season by the Sportsman Channel, Palin noted “The View” had just undergone a purge that left if with plenty of vacancies to be filled.
Asked whether she had any interest in new TV formats besides “Amazing America,” Palin suggested – possibly in jest? – she might be interested in taking on “The View.”
“I hear everyone recently got canned from ‘The View,’ maybe a show like that needs a punch of reality and a voice of reason from America’s heartland to knock some humble sense into their scripts,” she said. said. “You know, someone willing to go rogue.”
While it’s not quite true everyone just “got canned” from “The View,” it was darn close. Barbara Walters, the show’s grande dame, retired this season, and Monday marked the first live episode since the announcement of the coming departures of autism-whacko Jenny McCarthy after one season and “View” veteran Sherri Shepherd after six.
That leaves only Whoopi Goldberg as a holdover heading into next season.
If Palin wants to be the “voice of reason,” she couldn’t ask for a better foil than Whoopi Goldberg. “A punch of reality” might not just be a figure of speech if those two were on stage every day together.
The Hollywood Reporter interview, coming as it did on days when McCarthy and Shepherd were getting mushy about their “View” memories, had the libs erupting with the howls of the damned.
