Comedienne Joan Rivers stormed off the set Saturday during an interview with CNN host Fredricka Whitfield.
Rivers was plugging her new book, “Diary of a Mad Diva,” and quickly learned just how ferociously loyal the media is to the Obamas as a result of an off the cuff comment she made about the president being gay and the first lady being “a tranny” — a term used to describe transgender people.
In the interview, a smug, laughing Whitfield badgered Rivers for being “mean” in her fashion criticisms on the show “Fashion Police,” before she shifted the conversation to joking about things that are “off limits.”
Whitfield called Rivers out for her “shock value,” criticizing her for wearing a fur on the cover of her book and it was clear the comedian was beginning to have her fill.
“You know, this whole interview is becoming a defensive interview,” Rivers said before asking Whitfield if she is wearing leather shoes.
“Yes,” the host answered.
“Then shut up!” Rivers yelled. After a little more back and forth, Rivers was finished.
“All you have done is negative!” she said as she began to melt down. “IÂ made people laugh for 50 years. I am put on Earth to make people laugh. My book is funny!”
The condescending smile never left Whitfield’s face, even as Rivers stormed off — dropping a few choice four-letter words captured by her still live microphone, the CNN host took pleasure in noting.
