British reporter embarrasses Hillary: During your tenure, America’s approval ratings tanked

Trying to justify her tenure as a successful Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton met stiff opposition in a pointed question by Guardian reporter Phoebe Greenwood.

In a TV interview Friday, Clinton was asked to explain why America’s approval ratings overseas plummeted when her mission was to restore U.S. standing.

“You thought that it was absolutely necessary to restore America’s standing, its reputation in the world, damaged in the Bush administration and yet according to a Pew Research figures, um, actually during your period, your tenure as Secretary of State some of the approval ratings in countries that were focuses of your foreign policy such as Pakistan, Egypt, China even the UK, approval ratings to the U.S. actually fell,” Greenwood said.

Greenwood asked Clinton to justify America trying to solve the world’s problems “when in fact, U.S. exceptionalism gets so many people’s backs up”

“It’s a constant balancing act,” Clinton responded. “When America acts in furtherance of our values, our interests, and our security that is not going to be universally popular, and when we don’t act that is not going to be universally popular.”

She went on to blame “very active disinformation campaigns” in Pakistan and Egypt for our large disapproval ratings there.

Noting that the Pakistanis resented our strong relationship with India, she boasted, “We pushed for Pakistan to go after Al Qaeda. I famously said ‘Someone in Pakistan knows where Al Qaeda is hiding,’” when she meant to say, of course, Osama bin Laden.

The previous day, in a BBC interview, she made another gaffe, inexcusable for any Secretary of State, by saying, “…whether it’s a Conservative or a Tory…” instead of “a Conservative or Labour,” not understanding that Conservative and Tory are synonyms.

Clinton concluded the interview, misconstruing facts again, by telling the reporter, “Certainly the Obama administration has been much better received than the previous administration.”
