Presidents have their priorities.
President Obama’s got plenty of time to whack Republicans over immigration policies, and he’s got plenty of time to cruise around the blue pockets of Texas to pick up cash for electioneering.
He just doesn’t have time to visit the Lone Star State’s southern border, where the illegal immigration crisis he helped create to get an edge in the 2012 election is taking place on national television.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Wednesday the president has a scheduled trip to Texas next week that will notably not include the immigration centers flooded with prospective “dreamers” drawn to make the dangerous crossing from Central American to the United States by Democrat duplicity.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry made that duplicity clear Thursday in an interview on “Fox & Friends.”
“The real problem from my perspective is this message that has come out of this administration for too many years that, ‘Come on up and cross the border, and you can become a United States citizen,'” Perry said. “If the president of the United States is really serious about securing that border, we can show him how to do that.”
But according to the Blaze, Obama will instead stick to the friendlier confines of Dallas then Austin, where big money donors will shell out for Democrat efforts in the fall’s midterm elections.
Obama doesn’t need to go himself, Earnest said, because he’s got all the right people in charge.
“This president is obviously very attuned to what’s happening at the border,” Earnest said. “The president is getting regular updates on the situation.”
Like he was getting regular updates on the Department of Veterans Affairs hiding wait times for veterans who literally died trying to get treatment? Or the IRS? Or how he was getting regular updates from Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012?
“Schedules sometimes change and if they do we’ll let you know, but right now there is no plan to visit the border while he’s in Texas,” Earnest said.
Meanwhile, the House Committee on Homeland Security will find time to travel to the border town of McAllen, Texas, for field hearings on how Obama’s decision during the 2012 election to defer deportation action on illegal aliens in the U.S. encouraged the current deluge of border jumpers in Texas.
Perry, who is scheduled to address that hearing, put it bluntly.
“If he doesn’t go to the border, I think it’s a real reflection of his lack of concern about what’s really going on there,” he said.
Presidents, however, have their own priorities.
