Video: Things get ugly between cops, female ‘race theory’ professor — ends in a body slam

A late-night confrontation between a university professor and a campus police officer over a minor jaywalking incident is drawing major attention on the Web thanks to a video showing a police officer wrestling the female professor to the ground.

The incident occurred on May 20 when Arizona State University Professor Ersala Ore was stopped by a police officer for walking in the middle of a street, then refused to provide identification when the officer demanded it.

In the video captured by the patrol car’s dash cam, the incident escalates quickly from a verbal exchange to a wrestling match. Check out independent television station KTVK-3TV’s coverage here:

Now, it’s clear from the video that Ore had a pretty short fuse when it comes to dealing with the cops. And considering she makes a living on racial tension – her research topics include “race critical theory” and “rhetorics of race and culture” – it’s not surprising she’s combative with authority figures who happen  to be white.

But it’s not clear at all that the situation had to escalate to the point where an armed man is wrestling a woman to the ground because she wouldn’t cough up a photo id.

“Put your hands behind your back right now,” the officer says. “I’m going to slam you on this car. Put your hands behind your back.”

“Don’t talk to me like that,” Ore says. ”This entire thing has been about your lack of respect for me.”

(Let’s face it, any confrontation between a civilian and a cop that includes those words is not going to end well.)

Two things are crystal clear though.

One is that prosecutors have made a bad situation worse by charging Ore with a felony of aggravated assault. That’s ludicrous.

The other is that the libs will try to play this up for more than it’s worth, like that confrontation between a Cambridge, Mass., police officer and black Harvard Professor – and Barack Obama buddy – Henry Gates in 2009.

A White House “beer summit” cooled things down back then. Five years later, with the Obama administration mired in scandal and a hostile world making a hash of whatever remains of American foreign policy, the left seriously needs a distraction.

Lefty sites like the Huffington Post and Think Progress are already blowing the story out. When the president says the ASU cop “acted stupidly,” we’ll know the fix is in.
