Nut-job challenger claims 20-year congressman died, was replaced by a ‘look-alike’

In a bizarre twist worthy of a Hollywood plot line, the unsuccessful challenger in an Oklahoma congressional campaign is claiming that the incumbent is actually dead and has been replaced by a look-alike.

“It does come as kind of a shock to read that you’re not you,” 20-year Republican U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas told KFOR-4 News.

Lucas beat Tim Murray, who ran for the seat as a Democrat two years ago but competed in Tuesday’s primary as a Republican. Murray sent a letter to the TV station, saying he would contest the election results but wouldn’t answer the phone or return calls from reporters.

Murray’s campaign website outlines his claims about Lucas, saying:

“It is widely known Rep. Frank D. Lucas is no longer alive and has been displayed by a look alike. Rep. Lucas’ look alike was depicted as sentenced on a white stage in southern Ukraine on or about Jan. 11, 2011.”

“I’ve never been to Ukraine,” Lucas told KFOR.

Murray, who garnered only 5.2 percent of Tuesday’s vote to Lucas’ 82 percent, wrote election board officials with his wild accusations.

“Many things have been said about me, said to me during course of my campaigns,” Lucas said. “This is the first time I’ve ever been accused of being a body double or a robot.”
