As the humanitarian crisis on the U.S. southern border with Mexico continues to build, count on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to make things worse.

Pelosi announced Thursday that she will travel to the border to be “briefed” by Customs and Border Protection officers, and meet with a group of children who entered the country illegally, Politico reported.

“The humanitarian crisis unfolding across our nation’s southern border demands Congress come together and find thoughtful, compassionate and bipartisan solutions,” the Democrat lawmaker said. “We must ensure our laws are fully enforced, so that due process is provided to unaccompanied children and the safety and well-being of unaccompanied children is protected.

Pelosi is not referring to laws that would stop illegal immigrants from entering the United States, but laws that ensure they are not turned away once on U.S. soil — federal law requires that unaccompanied illegal immigrant children be turned over to Department of Health and Human Services within three days.

Despite assurance from a truth-challenged President Obama that the children will “get sent back,” it appears many are being relocated to Office of Refugee Resettlement shelters, which describes its mission as:

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) provides new populations with opportunities to maximize their potential in the United States, linking people in need to critical resources to assist them in becoming integrated members of American society.

Keep in mind, Obama is asking Congress for an extra $1.4 billion for shelter, food, clothing and services for the children he said will be sent back.

As for the overwhelmed agents on the border, in addition to changing diapers and making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, they can now add entertaining a politician who is largely responsible for the crisis to their list of things to do.
