President Obama’s unstoppable quest to give illegals amnesty appears headed for a collision with Republicans’ insistence on border control, with an ugly showdown shaping up this summer.
“We’re not just going to sit around and wait interminably for Congress,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Thursday, according to Breitbart News. “We’ve been waiting a year already.”
Obama has asked Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to explore how to use his executive powers to achieve his immigration goals, Earnest told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, adding that the plan was “not a substitute for robust congressional action.”
Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner said the worsening border crisis makes immigration reform more unattainable.
“The president’s making this harder and harder every day for us to try to deal with this in a responsible way,” Boehner told reporters in the Capitol, according to The Hill. “We’ve got a humanitarian disaster on the border. Most of it, at the president’s own making.”

Boehner announced Tuesday that he plans to sue Obama on Congress’ behalf for abusing his constitutional authority, widening the gap between the two adversaries.
U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., told reporters Thursday that if Republicans don’t act on immigration by July, executive action would be inevitable, The Hill reported.
“We’re not bluffing by setting a legislative deadline for them to act,” Menendez told The Hill. “Their first job is to govern, and in the absence of governing, then you see executive actions.”
Considering that Obama lost the support of key Republican ally U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia over his refusal to deal with immigration, a showdown seems inevitable.
