Horrified diners watched a man walk into a McDonalds in Queens, talking on his cell phone with a kitchen knife protruding from his back, his shirt drenched in blood.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. Tuesday, with one witness saying the man appeared to be saying his final good-bye to a family member, the CBS New York reported.
The victim, Andrew Hardy, 53, appeared “cool and calm,” his friend, Michael Green, told the Post.
“I went to pull the knife out, but someone said, ‘No, no! It might have hit an artery,’” Green said. “He came to me. He said, ‘Mike, man, I was stabbed in the back, man.’ He was scared, he was shaking.”
While waiting for medics to arrive, customers laid Hardy down so he would not fall backwards onto the knife. He was transported to Jamaica Hospital and released later in the day.

Hardy told the Post that a fight had escalated out of control and that he was “lucky to be alive” after an unknown assailant hit him from behind.
“They could have killed him,” Hardy’s mother, Alice Hardy, 78, said. “I had just come from a funeral, and when I got the call about him, I thought I’d have to go to another.”
Other witnesses identified a man in a white shirt as the attacker, police sources told the Post. As of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made.
