A student doing researching for a gun control debate discovered his school was blocking access to conservative websites, while leaving the gate wide open for left-leaning websites.
Andrew Lampart, a senior at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury, Connecticut became suspicious when he could not access the National Rifle Association’s web site, according to the local Fox Affiliate WTIC.
“So, I went over to the other side,” Lampart told the network. “And I went over on sites such as Moms Demand Action or Newtown Action Alliance and I could get on these Web sites but not the others.”
The latter websites are organizations that favor gun control.

Lampart looked even further and found that the bias was not restricted to just guns.
“I immediately found out that the State Democrat web site was unblocked but the State GOP web site was blocked,” he said.
And the prejudice went on and on, be it abortion issues or religion, WTIC reported.
“They’re trying to, in my opinion, shelter us from what’s actually going on around the country and around the world by blocking these web sites,” Lambart said. “It should be the other way around. The web sites should be unblocked so that students can get different viewpoints from different sides of each argument.”
The student notified the Superintendent of Woodbury schools, and then the Board of Education, which said the situation “warrants further investigation.”

The school’s SonicWALL internet filters also block the Connecticut GOP homepage, news organizations like Townhall, RedState, and political action committees like SarahPAC.com, categorizing them under the Political/Advocacy Groups restricted web pages.
However, the school’s firewall allows students to access the homepage for the gun control group Moms Demand Action, the Connecticut Democrat Party, Center for American Progress, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and the homepage for Hillary Clinton.
