NBC’s Chuck Todd takes umbrage with Drudge’s ‘Todd Turns: Obama ‘Over” headline

Results of  NBC News/Wall Street Journal’s latest poll put NBC Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd in the hot seat.

Todd told a Morning Joe panel Wednesday that “this poll is a disaster for the president. You look at the presidency here: Lowest job rating, tied for the lowest ever; lowest on foreign policy…His administration is seen as less competent than the Bush administration post-Katrina.”

Most poignantly, he added, “On the issue of do you believe he can still lead? A majority believe no. Essentially the public is saying, your presidency is over.”

This stark conclusion came after the survey of 1,000 American adults revealed that Obama’s approval rating had sunk to 41 percent, that 54 percent believe he is no longer able to lead the country, and that he had fallen from favor in the Hispanic community.

Additionally, a majority of respondents disapproved of the Bergdahl swap, a mere 37 percent felt Obama capable of managing America’s foreign policy and 41 percent said the performance of his administration had gotten worse over the last year. Perhaps even more distressing, the poll was taken before Iraq’s collapse hit the headlines!

At midday, when the Drudge Report highlighted Todd’s comment at the top of its web page under the banner, “Todd Turns: Obama ‘Over,’” the reporter took umbrage and sharply disagreed. He tweeted:

Which drew the following response:

The most glaring statistic – 54 percent believe the president is unable to lead the country – led Republican Bill McInturff, who conducted the poll along with Democratic pollsters Peter Hart and Fred Yang, to conclude, “This is a bad poll for President Obama, and not a good poll for anybody else,” NBC News reported.

“Whether it’s [Vladimir] Putin, Ukraine, the VA Hospitals, Bowe Bergdahl, the events have controlled Obama rather than Obama having controlled events,” Hart added.
