Congressman says House probably has the votes to impeach Obama

A Pennsylvania Congressman said on Monday that the House probably has the votes to impeach President Obama, but he’s not sure that the majority of the American people are in favor of it.

Speaking on WSBA’s Gary Sutton Show from York, Republican Rep. Lou Barletta said, “He’s [Obama] just absolutely ignoring the Constitution, and ignoring the laws, and ignoring the checks and balances. The problem is, you know, what do you do?”

“For those that say impeach him for breaking the laws or bypassing the laws; could that pass in the House? ” he wondered. “It probably could. Is the majority of the American people in favor of impeaching the president? I’m not sure.”

Sutton suggested that Republicans found themselves in a type of “political purgatory” now, to which Barletta said that the upset loss in Virginia would serve as a wake-up call for all the House members.

“If your constituents don’t feel you’re standing up for them, they’re going to throw you out,” he admonished. “There was a big message here, and Congress better pay attention.”
