A 3-year-old girl whose family said she was asked to leave a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant because her scarred face disturbed other patrons has been receiving an outpouring of prayers, well wishes, moral support, money and gifts.
Now, the KFC chain is trying to make amends, saying it is donating $30,000 toward the girls’ medical bills, Fox News reported.
Mississippi toddler Victoria Wilcher gained worldwide sympathy last week when a Facebook page featured a photo of her with a simple question: “Does this look scary to you?” The post went on to explain how the child was asked to leave a Jackson, Miss., KFC “because her face scared the other diners.”
The youngster was mauled by pit bulls in April and lost her right eye and the use of the right side of her face. The attack also broke both her jaws, her cheekbones and her nose.
The little girl, her injuries still healing, was seated in a KFC restaurant waiting for mashed potatoes and gravy earlier this month, when an employee asked her to leave, according to the post on a Facebook page, called Victoria’s Victories, set up to document the child’s recovery. Victoria’s grandmother, Katie Mullins, had just brought her back from a doctor’s appointment when the two stopped for a bite to eat.
“I wanted to hit her[the employee], I was so mad,” Mullins told WAPT-TV. “But that wouldn’t solve anything.”

KFC officials are now in spin mode.
“As soon as we were notified of this report on Friday, we immediately began an investigation, as this kind of hurtful and disrespectful action would not be tolerated by KFC,” national KFC spokesman Rick Maynard said, adding that the chain has apologized to the girl’s family and donated $30,000 to assist with her medical bills.
Another sympathetic KFC franchise owner, Dick West of nearby Laurel, offered to throw a “big KFC picnic” for the family, telling The Associated Press that “she has been through more than any little girl should, and I wanted to give her a special treat.”
West wrote on the Victoria’s Victories page that he knows the owners of the Jackson restaurant, and in the 50 years they have operated the franchise, they have never treated anyone with disrespect.
After the incident, Mullins told WAPT-TV, Victoria cried all the way home, and since then, she will not look at herself in the mirror, and will only talk with her playmates, avoiding any dialogue with adults.
Meanwhile, her Facebook page ballooned from 250 “likes” on Friday to 32,500 on Sunday.
