Newly discovered letters from captive Bergdahl prompt strong reaction from platoon mates

bergdahl4As Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl made his way back to the U.S., letters he allegedly wrote while in captivity have surfaced that indicate he intentionally left his post.

The Daily Beast reported that “sources in contact with the Taliban” gave them two letters written by Bergdahl in 2012 and 2013, in which he explained why he deserted, citing poor leadership and bad living conditions.

Family members and other officials have confirmed that the letters came from Bergdahl, according to Fox News.

Fox News host Megyn Kelly asked two former members of Bergdahl’s platoon for their response to the letters on Thursday’s episode of “The Kelly File.”

“So now we know he deserted for a fact,” said former Spc. Cody Full, who roomed with Bergdahl. “He just admitted in these letters that he deserted. It was all rough on everybody there…and we decided to uphold our oath and still fight for our fellow Americans and not desert.”

“These letters just prove that he did desert and that everything that we have said is true, and there’s no excuse for what he did,” Bergdahl’s former platoon leader Sgt. Evan Buetow added.

Full said he “would like to see when the government knew” about the letters.

“I wonder if that would prove they knew the whole time he was a deserter,” he said.
