For U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, the numbers tell the story.
During Senate questioning of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Wednesday about the flood of minors entering the country illegally and swamping immigration authorities in Texas and Arizona, the Texase Republican broke down the numbers of children who were captured jumping the border in 2011 and the years since.
After President Obama’s election-year driven decision in 2012 to defer deportation action against illegal aliens in the country who met certain conditions, in an effort to pander to Hispanic voters, the number of children entering the country spiked drastically, Cruz told Johnson.
“It’s important to understand what those numbers represent. These numbers represent children,” Cruz said. “Little boys and little girls, their parents are handing them over not to some noble social worker trying to help them. They are handing them over to international, global criminal cartels that smuggle human beings in.”
For some that means a life of sexual slavery or death, the senator said.
Cruz’s message: the Obama administration’s use of immigration as a political football has not only drastic consequences for America; it has dangerous – sometimes fatal – consequences for those encouraged by the president’s lawlessness to try their luck entering the country illegally.
