Hagel gets testy when confronted by Congress on why Bergdahl isn’t back in US: ‘I don’t like the implication’

hagel-millerU.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., got into a testy exchange with Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel over why Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has still not returned to the United States.

Hagel passed the buck when Miller pressed him on why no one has gone to Germany to interview Bergdahl, saying it was up to the doctors to determine when he’d be ready for the “next step.”

“I don’t know how much medical training you had Mr. Congressman, I haven’t had much,” Hagel replied. “What we are doing is we are allowing the doctors to make the decision.”

“Why hasn’t he been returned to the United States?” Miller interjected. “We have seriously wounded soldiers that are returned to the United States almost immediately after they are stabilized. You’re trying to tell me he’s being held in Landstuhl, Germany because of his medical condition?”

“Congressman, I hope you are not implying anything other than that,” Hagel fired back, saying he didn’t “like the implications of the question.”

The two men continued to go back and forth on the issue, proving that there is little lost between the Obama administration and the GOP-controlled House.
