Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has an idea for getting a U.S. Marine Reservist out of a Mexican prison:
Get President Obama to arrange another “prisoner swap” – we get U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, the Mexicans could have five of our Democrats, starting with Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton.
“Mr. President, you love to trade people,” Paul said during a speech Friday at the Texas Republican Convention in Fort Worth, according to Politico.
“Why don’t we set up a trade? But this time, instead of five Taliban, how about five Democrats? I’m thinking John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, couldn’t we send them to Mexico?”
The crowd roared, Politico reported, but not everyone thought it was funny – like the left-leaning reporters who questioned Paul at a news conference after the speech.
Pressed with questions, according to Politico, Paul said, “It was a joke. Except for Nancy Pelosi, I was serious about her.”
Normal people would think that was funny, too. Humorless Democrats took to Twitter to say they didn’t get it.
(For any Democrats reading this, Paul was referring to Obama’s decision to exchange five high-level America-hating Taliban murderers for likely Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl. Pelosi and Co. could have taken it as a compliment.)

Since conservatives are, as a rule, a lot funnier than liberals (in real life, forget late-night comedians) Paul’s idea got a better reception on the sane end of the spectrum.
