Denzel Washington’s powerful advice: ‘Put your shoes way under your bed at night . . .’

A popular Academy-Award winning actor delivered a powerful punch of wisdom and humility to a group of aspiring actors Sunday.

Denzel Washington told the wannabe thespians how lucky and blessed they were, and urged them not to forget it, CNSNews reported.

In an event taped by his friend Cecily Tyson, the rugged star said, “Between goals and achievement, are discipline and consistency. I pray that you all put your shoes way under the bed at night so that you gotta get on your knees in the morning to find them, and thank God for grace and mercy and understanding.

The current lead actor in “A Raisin in the Sun” on Broadway urged the young people to use their gifts to help others. “We have a little boy in our show and we have a circle, we pray every day. And his prayer, this boy is prayed-up. He just prays that we go out and touch someone tonight. He says, ‘God, somebody out there needs us tonight.’”

Washington revealed that he had been fortunate to earn hundreds of millions of dollars, but “I can’t take it with me, and neither can you. So, it’s not how much you have. It’s what you do with what you have.”

“You’ll never see a U-Haul behind a hearse,” he continued, beseeching the young actors to share their gifts.

The father of five and a Pentecostal Christian, Washington told Oprah Winfrey in an interview years ago that “he’s careful about that word ‘proud.’ I’m happy to have read te Bible from cover to cover. I’m on my second go-round; I read one chapter a day.”
