Sarah Palin: Obama has a ‘lack of understanding’ about ‘debt of gratitude’ toward vets

palin_0Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin criticized President Obama over the ongoing VA scandal Thursday while at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans.

“I think there’s a lack of understanding on our commander in chief’s part about what the mission of the military is, and why it is that we owe a debt of gratitude that’s manifested in benefits paid to those who’ve already earned them,” Palin told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

The vibrant 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate mentioned President Obama‘s address at West Point on Wednesday, which she called a “weak speech.”

Hannity cited the “Obama Doctrine,” which prompted a humorous response from Palin.

“What is the Obama Doctrine?” she asked rhetorically. “And do you believe in it?”

The question prompted the live audience to laugh, with Palin asking if they remember that. She then muttered over her shoulder, “Mr. Reporter, from wherever.”

A clear reference to the condescending treatment she received from then-ABC anchor Charles Gibson during a 2008 interview — Gibson ambushed Palin with a “gotcha” question about the Bush Doctrine.

When asked about former Republican vice president Dick Cheney’s recent comment that Obama is weak, Palin offered a little clarity.

“It’s not that we are weak as a country, but we are so unreliable now, under Obama,” Palin said. “My concern is the effect that his doctrine, his policies, his attitude, has on those who are volunteering to serve this country — to those whom we owe a debt of gratitude.”
