Game Show Network’s Bible quiz show a smash hit; blows everyone away with ratings

Americans love competitions, and if the subject matter is the Old and the New Testament, all to the better.

The Game Show Network has scored big with its Bible-themed quiz show, American Bible Challenge, beckoning teams to select the right answer to esoteric Biblical questions, the Washington Times reported.

Hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, the program has attracted millions of viewers going into just its third year, proving that the quest for enhanced Biblical knowledge and faith-based topics still pervades a large chunk of American society.

Premiering just two years ago, the show marshaled impressive numbers from the onset.

  • 1.7 million viewers from inception
  • Highest-rated original series in GSN’s 18-year history
  • 500,000 more viewers than “Mad Men’s”  2007 premier

The entertaining presentation appeals to all age groups, and cleverly presents categories such as Faithbook, C.S.I. Holyland, Nazareth Enquirer, all accompanied by heart-pounding spiritual songs with Kirk Franklin and his choir. Best of all, the prize money up to $20,000 goes to charitable causes, which results in contestants rooting for each other.

“There are so few things for families out there, for multiple generations to watch together,” explained GSN’s executive vice president for programming, Amy Introcaso-Davis. “I also think it’s the groundswell about religious beliefs in the country. I think that plays into it, too.”
