The Duck Commander can still command attention.
“Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson, who livened up the Christmas season by stirring a national controversy with his remarks in a GQ magazine interview, is making news again as an Easter sermon he delivered is drawing attention for its unrepentant stance on homosexuality goes viral.
In a 40-minute address at Whites Ferry Road Church in West Monroe, La., Robertson reiterated his biblical injunctions against homosexuality, telling the congregation the Christmas controversy stemmed in part from ignorance about what the Bible contains.
“They were mad at me. … because instead of acknowledging their sin like you had better do, they railed against me for giving them the truth about their sin,” he said. “‘Don’t deceive yourself’ — you want the verse? The news media didn’t even know it was a verse. They thought I was just mouthing off.”
The liberal outlets treated the “revelation” that Robertson hasn’t changed his mind after the first time around as some kind of scandal by itself, with the Huffington Post running the story under the headline, “WATCH: New Anti-Gay Sermon from ‘Duck Dynasty’ star leaks” and entertainment rumor-mongering site TMZ giving it the sardonic head, “Phil Robertson: Yeah, I meant what I said about gays.”

The establishment media, in the form of Time.com, weighed in with the seemingly neutral headline “’Duck Dynasty’ star isn’t sorry about anti-gay remarks,” but headlined with a crazy-aunt-in-the-attic-sounding “In Easter sermon, ‘Duck Dynasty’s’ Robertson goes anti-gay again.”
The negative media attention, though, really just rallied Robertson’s supporters. It had the same effect during that remarkable Christmas contretemps, when Robertson was suspended by A&E amid the national hoopla over his remarks only to be reinstated 10 days later.
