“Al Qaida detainees get better medical treatment than our veterans.”
That’s the damning allegation from retired Navy Commander J.D. Gordon, who served as Pentagon spokesman in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 2005-09, under Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Secretary Robert Gates.
In an editorial published Friday by Fox News, Gordon spoke of the “secret the White House doesn’t want you to know about,” which is the terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base enjoy a patient-to-health care provider ratio of 1.5 to 1, compared to a 35 to 1 ratio for 9 million veterans.
“Despite the fact that al Qaida terrorists carried out the Sept. 11 terror attacks, killing 3,000 people in America, the admitted co-conspirators and their roughly 150 fellow jihadists at Gitmo have approximately 100 doctors, nurses and health care personnel assigned to them,” he stated.
Gordon wrote in response to President Barack Obama finally weighing in on the growing scandal at Veterans Affairs, where at least 40 veterans in Phoenix may have died while waiting for care after being placed on a secret waiting list.

Having visited Guantanamo 30 times, Gordon shared the quality care available at the facility.
“Doctors and medical personnel are at their beck and call,” Gordon stated. “Got a cold, a fever, a toothache, a tumor, chest or back pain, mental health issues, PTSD? No problem, come right on in. Military doctors are waiting to see you.”
While highlighting “misguided priorities and terrible mismanagement,” Gordon said Obama “needs to refocus his priorities.”
“Our veterans have served the nation proudly,” he concluded. “In many cases they were gravely wounded during their service and now will require a lifetime of medical support. Every one of them deserves better.”
