Valerie Jarrett gets creepy in commencement speech

The little liberals laughed, but Valerie Jarrett wasn’t joking.

valeriejarrett0520In a commencement speech at Southern California’s Pomona College, a tiny liberal arts school for the offspring of the well-heeled — tuition, room and board run north of $60,000 a yearPresident Obama’s senior adviser warned her audience that the government she’s a shadowy part of can shadow their every move online.

It was an oddly discordant note in an otherwise pretty milquetoast speech, full of public service blather and the usual love-what-you-do tripe ignored by graduates everywhere.

“Before I hire anybody, I always check out everything they’ve been doing online,” Jarrett said. “And believe me, we have ways of finding out everything you’ve been doing online.”

The “punchline” drew a laugh, but amusement might not have been what Jarrett was going for.

“That was actually funnier than I intended it to be,” she said.

And it is funny, in a sad kind of way. There’s very little doubt that virtually all Pomona students consider themselves liberals in the fashion of the Obama White House – Jarrett’s presence at the commencement alone shows the school’s philosophical bent – there’s also very little doubt that they would have erupted in outrage if a conservative Republican had made the same smirking boast Jarrett did.

Instead they laughed, happily comforted by knowing their government can literally find out about “everything” they’ve been doing online. And considering the life of an affluent millennial, that means pretty much “everything” that’s not between the sheets at night (and even that’s not guaranteed.)

But they’re world-beaters, these Pomona College graduates, ready to head out into the world – or to law school — with their quarter-million dollar diplomas, their parents’ health insurance for the next couple of years, and the quietly comfortable thought that the Valerie Jarretts of the world and their minions know “everything” they’ve been doing.

It’s so creepy, it makes the Occupy weirdos look dignified.

Because Valerie Jarrett wasn’t joking.

Check out Jarrett’s speech here (nothing groundbreaking, a mildly pathetic plug for Obamacare). The online-spying part is about the 17:20 mark.
