A New York City taxi driver has been suspended for 30 days but will not lose his position for wearing a swastika on the job.
Gabriel Diaz, a Dominican, was captured on camera wearing a Nazi swastika armband while driving for the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission, the New York Post reported.
“I thought my eyes were deceiving me,” a New Jersey mother told the Post. “I just felt like I had to document it because I could not believe my eyes. It was shocking. I was very angry.”

After snapping the photo, the woman filed a complaint with the commission and the Anti-Defamation League.
“Hate symbols worn publicly are not going to be tolerated,” said the civil rights agency’s regional director, Evan Bernstein, who called for an investigation.
The commission later suspended Garcia for a month. It’s against commission rules “for drivers perform any act that is against the best interests of the public,” according to the Post.
But Diaz has not been deterred.
“I’m going to wear it, but not when I’m driving a cab, because there are a lot of crybabies in Manhattan,” the driver told the Post. “A lot of liberal crybabies that cry every time they see a symbol of hate.”
While acknowledging that the swastika is a hate symbol, the self-described member of the National Socialist party said it’s unconstitutional to stop him from wearing it.
“We’ve been told lies about Hitler,” he said. “We believe in racial separation and racial differences.”
