Marco Rubio: I’m ready to be president; Hillary will be held accountable

Marco Rubio says he’s ready to run for president.

He just hasn’t decided to do it yet.

marcorubio0512In an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Rubio said his national image — an upstart candidate who rode tea party support into the Senate in 2010 – leaves out the years he spent in politics before the Senate, including a rock star stint as Florida House Speaker.

Asked by point-blank by reporter Jonathan Karl if he thinks he is ready and qualified to hold the Oval Office, Rubio replied, “I do, but I think we have other people as well.”

“I think a president has to have a clear vision of where the country needs to go and clear ideas about how to get it there and I think we’re very blessed in our party to have a number of people that fit that criteria,” he said.

Reporter Jonathan Karl tried to tie Rubio down on the issues, such as the Senate immigration bill Rubio helped write that hurt him with conservatives nationally, but Rubio was ready.

On immigration, for instance, he said both parties are responsible for coming up with an answer. “We’re not going to give blanket amnesty to 12 million people, we’re also not going to around and deport 12 million people.”

On the continuing controversy over the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Rubio said so far no one has been held accountable for the deaths of four Americans at an outpost in Libya. And former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the first on the list if she runs for the presidency in 2016.

“I’m sure she’s going to go around bragging about her time in the State Department,” Rubio said. “She’s also going to have to be held accountable for its failures.”
