A South Carolina police officer’s generosity toward a 13-year-old boy has taken Facebook by storm.
Sumter Police Officer Gaetano Acerra responded to a call a few weeks ago by teen Cameron Simmons, who was upset after fighting with his mother and did not want to live in the house anymore, according to WIS News 10.
“I said, ‘You have it good, you have a roof over your head,'” Acerra told WIS-TV. “I told him I would try to help him out, and here we are now.”
Acerra later learned that the teenager had little more than a roof.

“My heart went out for him,” the officer said. “I thought the little things that he needed I could give him, to make him a happier kid.”
In the days that followed the call, Acerra said he brought Simmons a bed, TV, desk and chair, and a Wii game system that someone donated to him. He said he plans to bring him a few more needed items soon.
“I didn’t do this for publicity or to get people to notice me,” said Acerra, who gave the boy his cellphone number. “I did it because I could. It was the right thing to do, and I think people should do things like this.”
Sumter should be proud of this public servant.
