Regardless of political affiliation, you may want to sit down for this story.

In opposition to a bill banning the use of EBT cards to buy guns, a Democratic lawmaker in New Hampshire argued that the legislation is “a blatant violation of the Second Amendment,” saying people receiving public assistance should be allowed to use cash benefits to purchase firearms.

Yes, you read that correctly.

“The firearms ban is a blatant violation of the Second Amendment,” Democratic state Rep. Timothy Horrigan said Wednesday on the state house floor. “Cash benefit recipients presumably have the same right as the rest of us to purchase guns for hunting, sports shooting, or even self-defense.”

The Democrat’s rationale is that recipients “don’t have much money to spend on that, but they do have the right under the Second Amendment to do so.”

While dependence on government entitlements is a staple of the Democratic Party, finding a pro-Second Amendment member of the party is not as easy in the age of Obama. Either way, Horrigan panders to both issues with perfection.

At least until we run out of money.

The last time Hoorigan found himself in the media spotlight was in 2010 when he resigned his position after speculating on the death of Sarah Palin, saying he would not run for re-election — the lawmaker was quietly reelected in 2012.
