Trey Gowdy to Nancy Pelosi: Check your math, elections have consequences

Nancy Pelosi’s hypocrisy was showing.

The House minority leader from California on Tuesday said a House select committee to investigate the Benghazi terrorist attacks of 2012 should be divided equally along party lines to ensure fairness, but the committee’s chairman called that idea a non-starter from the get-go.

collage0507nancypelositre“It’s not going to be evenly constituted,” Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum in a wide-ranging interview Tuesday night. “We’re in the majority and we’re in the majority for a reason.”

Gowdy pointed out that Pelosi’s own tenure as House speaker showed no regard for partisan fairness. For instance, when she established a select committee in 2007 to energy and global warming, its makeup was nine Democrats to six Republicans.

He also noted that every committee in the Democrat-run Senate has a Democrat majority.

“I find it interesting that people’s ability to do math changes when they go from being speaker to being minority leader,” Gowdy said.

Democrats haven’t exactly covered themselves with glory on committee’s investigation the Obama administration. Rep. Elijah Cummings has made himself a national joke carrying water for the White House in his role as ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and its investigation of the IRS targeting scandal.

“There are more Republicans than Democrats,” Gowdy told MacCallum. “There are consequences to elections.”

Check out the Gowdy interview here. The partisan power discussion starts about at about 4:30, but the whole interview is worth watching. You’ll see why Gowdy is a perfect choice to “get to the bottom of Benghazi.”
