Obama challenged to release daily intelligence briefings as Benghazi evidence; Bush did it over 9/11

President Obama can clear up the whole Benghazi scandal easily:

Release to House Select Committee investigators the daily brief the White House receives from United State intelligence services that summarizes what the president knew and when he knew it about the terrorist attack on an American diplomatic post in Libya in September 2012.

In an opinion column in Monday’s Washington Post, former White House speech writer Marc Thiessen argues Obama could follow the precedent set by the second President Bush when he released document known as the President’s Daily Brief from Aug. 6, 2001, that warned Osama bin Laden was “determined to attack inside the U.S.”

“What’s good enough for Bush should be good enough for Obama,” Thiessen wrote.

At the heart of the whole Benghazi scandal is the claims by the Obama administration – including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — that the attack that killed the American ambassador to Libya, a State Department information officer and two members of the outpost’s security detail was sparked by a demonstration against an Internet video critical of Islam’s founder.

Even if the attack turned out to have been planned, Obama officials and congressional Democrats insist that the videotape story was the best knowledge the White House had in the immediate aftermath of Sept. 11, 2012.

Thiessen says: Prove it.

“It is a knowable fact what the president of the United States was told,” Thiessen told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly in an interview Monday night on “The Kelly File.”

“So is he willing to come forward and tell us what the intelligence community told him – just like George W. Bush did?” Thiessen asked.

When Bush released that briefing to the 9/11 Commission investigating the attacks, his critics had a field day, declaring the Aug. 6 briefing proof positive that the Bush White House had ignored clear warnings of the coming attacks.

The criticisms continued for years. As recently as Sept. 10, 2012, an op-ed column in the New York Times used the briefing as a peg to blame the Bush White House for failing to prevent the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon.

The next day, the Benghazi outpost burned on Obama’s watch.

Is the Obama White House willing to put itself through the same public scrutiny? So far, it’s been unwilling to commit.

But after the demonstrable lie of “if you like your health plan, you can keep it,” the American public needs proof that the president is telling the truth, Thiessen told Kelly.

“It is absolutely reasonable for Americans to want to know, did the president lie about Benghazi too?” he said. “These documents can prove it. If he’s got nothing to hide, he’s got nothing to fear. Let them go.”

Check out Thiessen’s interview here. If you remember the splash the Bush briefing made 10 years ago, it could be an eye-opener.
