President Ronald Reagan’s strategy to oppose the global influence of the Soviet Union came to be known as the Reagan doctrine. Not to be out done, the Obama administration has ushered in the “hashtag doctrine.”
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki posted a tweet Thursday night hoping Russia “will live by the promise of hashtag.”
Twitter describes “hashtag” as the use of the # symbol to mark keywords or topics in a tweet.

Psaki’s tweet was posted just before Secretary of State John Kerry warned Russia that it would be a “grave” mistake to not de-escalate the situation in Ukraine, according to The Blaze.
As might be expected, Twitter lit up with ridicule after Psaki’s “hope and tweet.” Some of those responses were documented by The Blaze:

It’s nice to know our state dept uses the same social media tactics as high school age girls.
