Critics are slamming a 7-minute video, narrated by NBC News’ Brian Williams and produced to be included in the 9/11 Memorial Museum. They object because it fails to distinguish the radical Islamists who committed the attack from the religion’s peaceful followers.
Rev. Chloe Breyer, executive director of the Interfaith Center of New York, told Fox News host Megyn Kelly that the video lacks the context she feels is necessary to depict “Islam as a peace-loving religion.”
She and others specifically had objections to the words “Islamist” and jihad,” claiming that jihad is actually “a struggle to wage good.”
Brooke Goldstein, human rights attorney and director of the LawFare Project, said Breyer and others “are being incredibly, intellectually dishonest” if they feel the exhibit’s purpose is to show Islam in the best light possible.
“The purpose of the museum is to portray accurately history,” she said. “And the truth about 9/11 is that the 9/11 hijackers were motivated by a version of Islam that justified suicidal, homicidal violence against civilians.”
She called radical Islam “a real and imminent threat to our Western civilization.”
She later added that the controversy only arose because “The truth is offensive to Muslims.”
