Mozilla part 2? Hulk actor leads hit on Dropbox for conservative Condi Rice pick

When file hosting service Dropbox announced that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would be joining its board of directors, it looked at first to be a redux of the Mozilla brouhaha. Reaction form the left was swift and brutal.

Unlike the Mozilla fiasco, which led to the forced resignation of its CEO, Brendan Eich, Dropbox stuck to its guns, according to Twitchy.

Shortly after Dropbox’s announcement Thursday, petitions for her removal were passed around and the hate began flowing in:

As usual, most of the dissent came from anonymous sources. One notable exception was actor Mark Ruffalo, known for portraying The Hulk. He gave his muscles one more flex with this tweet:

It took less than 10 minutes for another Twitter user to wonder if the problem was that she was black or a woman:

With the Obama administration once again dragging out its phony “war on women” argument in recent weeks, The Blaze’s Dana Loesch added:

And then there was this:

Ruffalo and the others continued to be righteously hammered all day Thursday and Friday. At least one user appealed directly to the company:

On Friday, Dropbox reaffirmed its previous decision, and made their announcement in its own blog:

There’s nothing more important to us than keeping your stuff safe and secure. It’s why we’ve been fighting for transparency and government surveillance reform, and why we’ve been vocal and public with our principles and values.

We should have been clearer that none of this is going to change with Dr. Rice’s appointment to our Board. Our commitment to your rights and your privacy is at the heart of every decision we make, and this will continue.

We’re honored to have Dr. Rice join our board — she brings an incredible amount of experience and insight into international markets and the dynamics that define them. As we continue to expand into new countries, we need that type of insight to help us reach new users and defend their rights. Dr. Rice understands our stance on these issues and fully supports our commitments to our users.

Crisis averted. If only Mozilla had Dropbox’s spine.
