U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, said Attorney General Eric Holder lacks evidence to prove he was disrespected by Congress during an explosive House Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday.
“What attorney general has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?” Holder said the following day. “What president has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?”
Gohmert listed to Fox News host Megyn Kelly during his Thursday appearance on “The Kelly File,” the names of previous attorneys general who’d had it far worse than Holder.
“Alberto Gonzales, [G.W.] Bush’s appointment, was brutalized by Democrats in the Senate and House,” he said, adding the names John Ashcroft, Ed Meese and John Mitchell, who “may have deserved what he got, but he sure got a lot worse treatment than this attorney general.”
Gohmert assessed Holders complaint as totally baseless.
“So he makes these assertions, like some lawyers do in opening statements, but then the trouble is, when it comes to putting on evidence, he has none,” the congressman concluded.
Kelly asked whether he thought Holder had played the race card as many other have reported.
“He didn’t say race, and he was very careful about that,” Gohmert said. “It doesn’t matter to me, I could care less. I want to get to the bottom of it.”
