Donald Trump headlines rally against gun control at NY Capitol

Celebrity businessman Donald Trump joined a few thousand protesters at New York’s capital on Tuesday for a rally against Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the SAFE Act, the gun control measure he signed into law.

Trump spoke at the Empire State Plaza, along with former Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino and current candidate Rob Astorino, blaming New York’s high taxes and corruption for driving people out of the state in droves, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.

“On top of everything, they give you the SAFE Act,” Trump said. “I’m a big Second Amendment person. I’m a big, strong believer in it. You have the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. You have that right, and they are taking it away, slowly but surely, they’re taking it away. And they’re not taking it away from the bad guys.”

It’s either a lack of common sense, or the politicians are the bad guys, he speculated.

“People are always shocked when they hear, but I have a pistol permit,” Trump added. “I live in Manhattan. If I ever have a problem, I’ll at least have a good shot at it.”

Trump hinted that he had considered running for governor, but the Democrat & Chronicle reported that he decided against a campaign last month. But that didn’t stop some at the rally from waving“Trump for Governor” signs.
