David Axelrod puts Charles Krauthammer squarely in the ‘black helicopter crowd’

While conservative author and commentator Charles Krauthammer was questioning the latest Obamacare enrollment numbers on Fox News on Tuesday, former Obama adviser David Axlerod was on MSNBC saying anyone who expressed speculation was part of the “black helicopter crowd.”

“Special Report” host Bret Baier said he found it interesting that the Obama administration was using a different tone these days when referring to enrollment numbers.

“You know, when all the questions were about the health care plans that people lost because they were told that their plans didn’t match up. It was about 6 million or more, and the administration at that time said that is a small sliver,” he said. “It is only 5 percent of the population. But now, at 7 million, it is this ‘bring out the balloons and cheer in the Rose Garden.’ But that 6.2 was a sliver.”

Krauthammer agreed, saying it’s a sliver if it hurts you, but it’s gigantic if it helps.

“Look, this is a phony number and it’s wonderfully precise,” he said. “You know, these guys go six months without any idea what the numbers are, and all of a sudden, it’s to a decimal point. 7.1, not 7.2. But of course, it’s meaningless because, we don’t know how many of them have paid.”

The real issue, Krauthammer said, was whether the media will pursue the real numbers.

Meanwhile, on MSNBC, Axelrod said that passing Obamacare was difficult because it was the right thing to do.

“Anytime something happens in the health care system – if a premium goes up, or if someone gets denied care in any way – people say that’s because of the Affordable Care Act,” he said.

People who voted for Obamacare deserve “great credit,” Axelrod said.

“It’s going to take time,” he said. “I think we’re going to look back in five, 10, 20 years and say that was an extraordinarily good decision.”

But Axelrod didn’t stop there.

“I want to make one point on what Zeke [Emanuel] said about the insurance industry,” he said. “I suggest that all of the black helicopter crowd, the people who are doubting the numbers and all of that stuff should talk to the insurance industry, because they seem to be bearing out the numbers that the government is reporting.”
