The man who said, “Barack Obama’s oratory sends a thrill up my leg” is the least liked newscaster on TV, according to a poll of 1,800 viewers commissioned by TheWrap.
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews came in dead last in the Q Score, which measures name recognition and likeability among TV anchors.
In fact, MSNBC captured all three bottom rungs, with Alexandra Wagner and Andrea Mitchell joining the Hardball host as the least likeable TV newscasters, TheWrap reported. CBS’s Leslie Stahl and CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta rounded out the lowest five.
At the top of the list, CBS’s Scott Pelley came across as most favorable, followed by CNN host Anderson Cooper, 60 Minutes’ Lara Logan, NBC newscaster Brian Williams and CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
The Fox News team of Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Shephard Smith landed in the middle. Q Scores for Fox’s Bret Baier, Greta Van Susteren and Megyn Kelly, and for CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Candy Crowley, Don Lemon, and Erin Burnett were unavailable, even though TheWrap had requested their rankings, according to an editor’s note.
The scores, based on a study of 61 newscasters, were calculated by respondents’ reactions to each newscaster’s name and a brief description.
Another interesting point gleaned from the poll: When compared to game show hosts, talk show hosts and other types of TV personalities, newscasters typically ranked at the bottom. Maybe their steady diet of gloom-and-doom doesn’t sit too well with viewers.
