The motion picture “Noah,” scheduled for release Friday, is creating a lot of buzz for turning the Biblical story into a political statement — one favoring population control, protecting the environment and vegetarianism.
“Fox & Friends First” co-host Ainsley Earhardt appeared on a panel with Sean Hannity Thursday and remarked that the Biblical story of Noah contains 20 references to “God” and 9 to “the Lord.” Any such reference was replaced with the term “creator,” to make the film more “universal.”
Although not exactly thrilling to hear, it’s something most people of faith could probably live with.
However, Breitbart.com Editor-at-Large Ben Shapiro said the film goes far beyond mere name changes.
“It’s a complete reversal of what the Biblical narrative is,” he said. Instead of God destroying most of humanity for sins of depravity and idolatry, the creator is doing the same for sins against the environment. The film’s director has turned God an eco-terrorist.
Fox News contributor Father Jonathan Morris said that some creative license would be expected to tell the story of Noah, given that it only comprises three chapters in the Book of Genesis.
However, “when you write a story about a sacred, religious text and you don’t start from the point of view of faith, you’re going to have something that doesn’t look anything like the sacred text,” he said.
Darren Aronofsky, the film’s director, is a self-described atheist. Take it for what it’s worth.
