Alabama hopeful has a little fun with firearms in unusual campaign ad

A Republican congressional candidate in Alabama released a campaign ad on Wednesday that showed him shooting the 2,000-plus-page Affordable Care Act full of holes – literally, with a .40 Glock pistol, a .270 Cooper rifle and multiple rounds from an AR-15.

“Republicans have been successful in taking shots at Obamacare,” Will Brooke said in the video. “But it’s going to take more extreme measures to get rid of it.”

The successful businessman and Sunday school teacher opened the ad by holding a copy of the U.S. Constitution, with his weapons and the Obamacare tome sitting on the flatbed of his pickup truck, which sported a decal that said, “I prefer the dangers of a limited government.”

With a number of conservatives vying against Brooke to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, making an impression is key. And Brooke certainly makes his play to stick out in the minds of voters.

With banjo music playing in the background, the ad showed Brooke driving into the woods, then shooting the Obamacare document full of holes, but still failing to kill it.

“We didn’t quite get the job done,” he said on the video, suggesting the next step is to “resort to a market-based solution.”

With that, he walked to an Altec Whisper Chipper, and shredded the document, all 2,000-plus unread pages of it.
