In the midst of a crackdown against government protesters that has reportedly resulted in at least 32 killings in Venezuela, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., took to the Senate floor Thursday to deliver an impassioned speech calling for stiff economic sanctions against both the regime and companies doing business with it.
Much like one he delivered last month, which one journalist dubbed “the best oration of his political career,” he had an assistant exhibit oversized photographs depicting the stark reality that is Venezuela today.
“If the United States of America will not stand up and be a strong voice on behalf of people who all they seek is freedom and liberty that our own founding documents say belong to all people, rights given to them by their Creator, if the United States of America will not be a forceful voice, what nation on Earth will?”
