A Texas teen took the bold action of citing a police officer for illegally parking his patrol car in her apartment complex, and the officer’s reaction may surprise you.
Annie James, a 14-year-old from Baytown, Texas, saw a police car parked in what she thought was a fire zone and hand-wrote a parking ticket, placing it on the car’s windshield, The Baytown Sun reported.
The ticket said:
“You are in violation of Bay Oaks Apartment rules.
1. Parking in fire lane,
2. Parking on curb,
3. NOT head in parking.
Your fine is $10 to our apartment manager Mrs. Jamie. Thanks, Annie James.”
The car belonged to officer Tommy King, who said he was asked by the apartment manager to start parking in the front of the complex as a crime deterrent, according to The Baytown Sun.
“I came to my car and I saw a piece of paper on my windshield,” King told KPRC-TV. “I took it off and opened it and read it and I started laughing immediately.”

Even though King said parking where he did is legal because it’s not a fire zone, he decided to pay the fine imposed by Annie.
“I thought it was neat that she made that for $10 but not to herself,” he said.
In fact, he was impressed, he gave Annie a $40 gift card to Toys R Us.
“Turns out we’re both from Alabama and end up in Texas,” King said. “It’s interesting, I made a friend. A lesson would be not to be shy or afraid of law enforcement. We’re here to help.”
