Donald Rumsfeld on Obama’s foreign policy skills: A ‘trained ape’ can do better

Donald Rumsfeld didn’t hold back.

In a Fox News interview Monday , the former defense secretary said “a trained ape” would be better at foreign policy than the Obama administration, particularly when it comes to war in Afghanistan, which Democrats used to think was the “good war” compared to Iraq.

Relations between the United States and Afghanistan have reached the point where Afghan President Hamid Karzai has recognized the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula – a clear rift with Obama.

“I really think it’s understandable given the terrible, terrible diplomacy that the United States has conducted with Afghanistan over the past several years,” Rumsfeld said.

Rumsfeld in particular cited the Obama administration’s years-long abuse of the Afghan president as the reason it has been unable to reach a long-term security agreement with Afghanistan – known as a status of forces agreement.

“By golly they have trashed Karzai publicly over and over and over,” he said.

“A trained ape could get a status of forces agreement. It doesn’t take a genius.”
