CEO and president of Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy, hasn’t changed his mind about same-sex marriage, but nearly two years after he sparked controversy over the subject, he says he won’t be making any more comments.
Chick-Fil-A was thrust into the middle of the debate in 2012 when Cathy said he supported traditional marriage and criticized Supreme Court decisions that favored same-sex unions.

“Every leader goes through different phases of maturity, growth and development and it helps by [recognizing] the mistakes that you make,” Cathy told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday. “And you learn from those mistakes. If not, you’re just a fool. I’m thankful that I lived through it and I learned a lot from it.”
After his comments hit social media, same-sex marriage supporters protested at Chick-fil-A locations; while thousands all over the country who backed Cathy’s stance flocked to the stores creating long lines and traffic jams until the stores closed.
The company repeatedly tried to explain that regardless of Cathy’s views, it did not discriminate against customers or employees based on sexual orientation.
Still, eating at Chick-Fil-A is considered making a political statement for those on both sides of the issue.
Cathy said he wouldn’t be tweeting views on controversial issues anytime soon, but his personal feelings on gay marriage remain the same.
“I think the time of truths and principles are captured and codified in God’s word and I’m just personally committed to that,” he said. “I know others feel very different from that and I respect their opinion and I hope that they would be respectful of mine.”
