While Russia flexes its muscle on the border of Ukraine, a Russian TV anchor said Sunday his was the only country capable of turning the United States into “radioactive ashes.”
Dmitry Kiselyov, who anchors a weekly news show on state-controlled Rossiya 1 television, made the statement while waiting for results of the Crimean election to join Russia, according to the Washington Post.
“Russia is the only country in the world realistically capable of turning the United States into radioactive ash,” Kiselyov said, according to an AFP report. An image of a mushroom cloud was on the screen behind him.
Animated maps were used to illustrate how Russia could automatically respond with nuclear missiles, even if command and control were hit in an attack by the United States.
“Americans themselves consider Putin to be a stronger leader than Obama,” he added, with opinion polls appearing on the screen. “Why is Obama phoning Putin all the time and talking to him for hours on end?”
