Saturday provided the perfect contrast in the way U.S. presidents have chosen to conduct affairs between the United States and Russia.
Presidential historian Michael Beschloss tweeted that Saturday marks the 31st anniversary of Reagan’s speech, in which he first used the term “evil empire” to describe the then-Soviet Union. He included a copy of the speech, along with Reagan’s handwritten notes:

In his address to the National Association of Evangelicals in Orlando, Fla., Reagan contrasted the Soviet Union’s lack of religious faith to the United States’ Judeo-Christian values.

The 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney was criticized for reminding Obama that nothing much had changed on the last 31 years — that Russia remains to this day our “biggest geopolitical foe.”
Obama has still to learn that.
