Megyn Kelly shreds atheist’s spin on World Trade Center cross appeal

The atheist never had a prayer.

That became clear Thursday when an appellate court judge questioned his group’s motives in fighting the placement of a cross at the World Trade Center museum – and when Fox News host Megyn Kelly openly ridiculed him on national television.

megynkellydavidsilverman0308American Atheists President David Silverman used a return appearance on television’s most-watched cable news network to suggest that at least five members of his group have suffered a variety of ailments – chiefly dyspepsia – because their intestines can’t stomach the thought of a Christian symbol on display at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York. Apparently, the stomach pains would go away, though, if the museum installed a plaque honoring all the atheists murdered in

“We think the atheists who also died on 9/11 and the Muslims and the Jews should all have their
equal presence,” Silverman told Kelly. “It’s a Christian cross on public land, and that’s illegal, so we want equal treatment.”

The atheists’ argument didn’t appear to sit well at Thursday’s hearing with appellate Judge Reena Raggi on, who asked if the lawsuit was really an attempt to rewrite history, according to CBS.

Kelly wasn’t buying it, either. She pointed out that the cross was found standing on its own in the rubble of the twin towers. The same can’t be said about a plaque commemorating atheists – even if non-believers were among the thousands of men and women who perished that Tuesday morning.

“You want them to create something that was not there,” Kelly said, taking issue with Silverman for calling museum officials “disingenuous” because they said the cross wasn’t a symbol of Christianity.

“Isn’t it more disingenuous to claim atheists in your group are suffering dyspepsia and headaches as a result of seeing that cross included in the museum?”

Reading from the list of symptoms the atheists are supposedly suffering – including depression and anxiety – Kelly asked, “Are those real, David?”

Silverman barely pretended they were.

“I get a headache when I think about the fact that we’re being discriminated against by our World Trade Center Memorial,” he said lamely.
