Wasserman Schultz compares Issa cutting House microphone to oppression in Venezuela, Ukraine

No stranger to hyperbole, ever-scintillating Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz skewered Congressman Darrell Issa’s conduct at a House Oversight & Government Reform Committee hearing Wednesday, accusing him of “bludgeoning” the Obama administration and “silencing debate.”

Since key witness, former IRS Director of Exempt Organizations Lois Lerner, had again invoked the Fifth Amendment and refused to answer a single question, Issa abruptly adjourned the meeting, prompting MSNBC host Alexandra Wagner to editorialize on her show, “NOW with Alex Wagner,” “I personally found it beyond shocking, distressing,”

The Florida congresswoman couldn’t help but agree.

At a time when people “on both sides of the aisle [are] standing up for the rights of the oppressed, trying to make sure that in Venezuela that dictators there aren’t shutting down the opposition, the same thing in the Ukraine,” Issa is “politicizing the issue” of the IRS scandal, Wasserman Schultz told Wagner.

“Heads rolled, as they should have. The director of the IRS lost his job, Lois Lerner was fired, the matter was resolved,” Wasserman Schultz said. “But Issa and the GOP continue to try to use politics to bludgeon this administration and silence any debate or opposition, because they continue to bear-hug obstructionism.”

The fact that the IRS has defied a congressional subpoena to turn over emails, along with mounting evidence that the White House knew the agency was targeting tea party groups for political advantage, will almost certainly guarantee that the investigation will move forward, Issa told Greta van Susteren later that evening on Fox News.

Lick your chops, Debbie. We can’t wait to hear what’s coming out of your mouth next.
