A pregnant South Carolina woman swerved her minivan directly into the Atlantic off Daytona Beach , Fla. It was reportedly an attempt to take her life, her unborn child’s life, and the lives of her three children also in the vehicle.
This occurred Tuesday afternoon in front of witnesses who sprang into action, according to WESH-TV Orlando.
“The two in the back seat was crying, with their arms out saying ‘Our mommy’s trying to kill us, please help,'” said Tim Tesseneer, one of the first two to reach the minivan.
WESH reported:
A bystander’s video of the rescue shows a rescuer carrying two children away from the sinking van when the children tell them there was another child inside.
The kids are like, ‘No there’s a baby. There’s a baby,'” Tesseneer said. “She [the mother] wouldn’t say a word. She didn’t tell us nothing about a baby.”
Although the kids were frantic, the mother was a different story.
“She had this look on her face,” said Tesseneer. “I can’t describe it. It was just an awful blank look, like spaced out look.”
The entire family was admitted to a local hospital for examination. The children, ages 3, 9 and 10, were found to be fine, albeit shaken. The mother, 31, is undergoing a mental health examination.
